Getafe manager, Jose Bordalas, discussed the gap between Getafe and Inter Milan after their Europa League loss yesterday.
Speaking to the media after the game, Jose Bordalas said: “Romelu Lukaku alone costs as much as my entire team”
Goals from Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen helped Inter record a 2-0 win over Getafe in the last-16 clash in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday.
Lukaku was signed by Inter from Manchester United for €80million (£72.3m) last summer, Lukaku has gone on to score a whopping 30 goals across all competitions this season.
Getafe manager Jose Bordalas said the gap between his Getafe team and Inter was huge, calling attention particularly to how much Romelu Lukaku cost.
“We are very sad to lose, but I am happy with how my players performed, and I think they had a good game,” said Bordala.
“We had Inter defending very deeply during the second half. We had more possession of the ball, regrettably, a mistake from us gave them the first goal, but we forged ahead again and won a penalty which we still threw away. That penalty would have helped us pile more pressure on them if we had scored it.
“It is a shame we didn’t score despite all our efforts, but I am very happy with my players, they played so well but were unlucky today.
“The difference is very enormous, only Romelu Lukaku costs the same as the entire Getafe team.”
Jorge Molina missed a crucial 76th-minute penalty for Getafe that would have put them on level terms with Inter.
Inter will be preparing to face either Rangers or Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter-finals stage.
