There are a lot of reasons why we feel Thiago is the best cheap transfer in recent history. The Spaniard is an elite midfielder and we are going to see why his transfer is a true bargain.

Liverpool may have probably made the best transfer of the decade in completing a deal of just £20m for a revered player like Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago Alcantara is perhaps the best midfielder in the world in his position for the past 5 or 6 seasons.

The La Masia academy graduate has established himself as one of the best of his generation after coming through the Barcelona youth system.

Thiago was initially tipped to comfortably replace club legend Xavi at Barcelona.

With Guardiola admitting the player was personally taught with clips of Xavi’s ball control, passing, dribbling and vision.

Since an 18-year-old Thiago Alcantara made his debut against RCD Marllorca on 17 May 2009, the Spanish midfielder has gone from strength to strength.

Thiago has enjoyed what fans call a fairytale career. Winning major trophies with Barcelona before sealing a €25m move to Bayern in 2013.

While at Barcelona, Thiago Alcantara won four LaLiga trophies, one UEFA Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup title.

After sealing what was then labeled the ‘best steal’ in transfer history to Bayern Munich in 2013, Thiago set the Bundesliga alight with his immense skill and intelligence.

Thiago went on to win 16 major trophies with the German outfit, including seven Bundesliga titles and two record breaking trebles.

Style of play

Thiago Alcantara is a highly technically gifted and creative player, with alien dribbling skills, first touch and ball control.

These natural abilities help him to effectively operate in a deep lying playmaker role in the central midfield position.

His versatility also makes it possible for him to advance up the pitch as an attacking midfielder.

He is revered most of all for the accuracy in his ball distribution, as he possesses a lethal dose of passing technique, vision and accuracy.

One very scary fact is that Thiago Alcantara has never gone below 90.2% pass success rate throughout his seven year stay at the Allianz Arena.

Personal life

Thiago Alcântara do Nascimento was born on 11 April, 1991 to former Brazilian footballer and World Cup winner Mazinho.

His mother’s name is Valéria Alcântara, and she was a former Brazilian volleyball player.

Rafinha, his younger brother, plays for the Brazilian national team and FC Barcelona.

Rodrigo Moreno, who is widely considered his cousin is just a lifelong bosom friend to Thiago Alcantara, and also plays for the Spanish national team.

Thiago got married to Júlia Vigas, who was his long-term girlfriend in a quiet ceremony at Sant Climent de Peralta, Catalonia, Spain.

He also possesses dual citizenship, for both Spain and Brazil.
