Man Utd have officially released a list of 9 home grown prospects who are due to be released by the end of the season, which includes Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. It is understood united and the players have agreed to part ways, in order to let them search for first team football.
This list reportedly contains a host of young players who have failed to live up to their expectations. Most notably is the inclusion of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who is considered to be the most high profile inclusion.
This is due to the fact that the player has 14 first team appearances, which he gathered under former Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal during the 2015/2016 season.
The academy groomed left back joined Man United’s academy at the age of six way back in 2003. Jackson’s breakthrough from the academy into the first team came under van Gaal.
However, various loans to lower leagues which mostly never yielded more than a handful of appearances has hampered his first team dreams. This definitely means the player played his last game for United four years ago.
Belgian striker Largie Ramazani has also been given the red flag at Man Utd. Ramazani was included in the match day squad that flew to Kazakhstan when Manchester United sent a youth squad to play Astana in the Europa League.
The youngster has enjoyed a scintillating season with the under 23’s this season. So his departure comes as a shock to fans and supporters of the club.
Departing 23-year-old Demetri Mitchell falls more into the Borthwick-Jackson category. The winger made his first-team debut on the last day of the 2016/17 Premier League season but it remained his only senior appearance, despite returning to Manchester in 2019/20 after two loans in Scotland.
Aidan Barlow, Alex Fojticek, Ethan Hamilton, Dion McGhee, Kieran O’Hara and George Tanner are the six others who are being dropped from Old Trafford this summer.
However, United won’t simply cut ties with and have offered support to all or any outgoing players. Each has the choice to return to the club’s training ground to keep up their fitness in pre-season prior to finding another team, while United staff have tried to organise trials where possible.
The club has also taken the admirable decision to retain any player under the age of 18 as a due to the crucial opportunities that youngsters were forced to miss when football was suspended because of the coronavirus crisis and also the curtailment of the 2019/20 academy level season.
