Man Utd have added Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele to their already long transfer shortlist after failing to agree a deal for Jadon Sancho.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc publicly confirmed that Sancho is staying in Germany next season after failing to secure a move away to Manchester United before the deadline set by Dortmund.
However, Man Utd know that all those comments count for nothing as Zorc said similar things concerning Ousmane Dembele and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they still secured a move away from Dortmund.
Jadon Sancho would be frustrated at the stubborn stance of the Dortmund board, after he publicly showed his desire to join Manchester United this summer.
With Dortmund’s stiff-necked hierarchy refusing to lower their €140m asking price, Manchester United have shifted their attention to possible alternatives in Federico Chiesa, Kingsley Coman, and Douglas Costa.
According to ESPN, informal talks between Man Utd and Barcelona are ongoing concerning a possible season long loan deal for Ousmane Dembele, with an additional option to buy.
It is also important to note that no formal approach or offer has been made for Dembele yet.
Even if Man Utd were to eventually give up on Jadon Sancho, the decision to go after Ousmane Dembele is not a good one. There is no doubt in the immense skill and talent that Dembele possesses, but given his recent struggles with muscular injuries, Manchester United should better look elsewhere.
Dembele has only represented Barcelona 74 times in three years and missed much of the 2017/18 and 2019/20 seasons due to injury. He has not featured for Barca since November because of his latest injury problem which forced him to recieve surgery on his hamstring in February.
