Media outlet Footy Area reports that Lyon’s Sporting Director Juninho is still on the hunt to sign an experienced center-back this summer, with Inter Milan defender Diego Godin a favorite for the position.
Lyon have apparently made an effort to land Uruguayan veteran Diego Godin. The player turns 34 this year, and has experience from the very highest level of football.
Inter are also willing to let go off the defender, who only joined them this season from Atletico Madrid. He has an enormous chest of football experience and a fighting spirit.
Commonly revered as one of the best center-backs in the world, Godin started his professional career with Cerro and three years later was transferred to Primera Division side Nacional. Diego Godin has spent most of his playing career in Spain, plying his trade for both Villarreal and Atletico Madrid before joining Inter Milan. He went on to win eight titles with Atletico, including the La liga trophy in the 2013/14 season.
Godin has been an irreplaceable member of the Uruguayan national team since 2005, representing his nation at three World Cup tournaments and five Copa America competitions. He also won the Copa America trophy with Uruguay in 2011.
The deal may however seem unlikely due to the players high salary demands. Diego Godin currently earns somewhere between £5.5m to £6m per year at Inter Milan.
This is reportedly the exact reason why Inter Milan are keen to offload the player. But unless Lyon are willing to make some salary compromise, the deal appears unlikely.
