Brescia president Massimo Cellino confirmed to the press Sandro Tonali wanted to join Milan despite interest from Barcelona, Inter, and Man United.
According to Cellino, Sandro Tonali rejected contract offers from Barcelona and Manchester United because he wanted to join Milan
Tonali played a key role for Brescia last season but they were relegated to the second division, and as a result, he won three caps for Italy.
The prodigy was also heavily linked with a move to Inter, but is now set to join Milan this summer.
Cellino said Sandro Tonali was very happy to join Milan despite offers from Barcelona and Man United.
“In January we received an offer of €65million from Barcelona. Not later than 10 days ago we received an offer of 10 million higher than Milan’s from Manchester United,” he told media outlet Top Calcio 24.
“But the boy was determined to go to the Rossoneri.”
Cellino continued: “I know that [Antonio] Conte has thought a lot about Tonali, but I was also convinced that he was going to Inter.
“But at a certain point the boy didn’t want to hear anything anymore and went to Milan.”
Tonali completes dream move to Milan for a reported fee of about €40m after publicly voicing out his desire to join Milan.
Tonali confirmed he had always wanted to play for Milan from a very young age, confirming he was a fan of Milan growing up.
Tonali played 35 Serie A games for Brescia last season and scored one goal. Tonali has been likened to Italian legend Andrea Pirlo who also happened to start his career at Brescia.
Tonali is a natural defensive midfielder who is able to dictate the tempo of the game from his passing in midfield, comfortable with his both legs, shows a maturity beyond his age, possesses strong technical abilities, quick, elegant, and creative.
Milan would be hoping to wrap up the deal for Tonali in the next few days.
