Sensational Ronaldo header secures a point for 10-man Juventus

Jordan Veretout scored twice for Roma but a header from Cristiano Ronaldo ensured Andrea Pirlo remains unbeaten as Juventus boss.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace to help Juventus secure a poorly deserved 2-2 draw with Roma after Adrien Rabiot was sent off in the 67th.

The Serie A champions won the first match of the campaign against Sampdoria last weekend but they looked uninspiring at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma.

Jordan Veretout out Roma ahead from the spot in the 31st minute before adding a second on the stroke of halftime, just moments after Ronaldo had drawn Juve level with a penalty.

Rabiot was sent off following a second yellow card, before Ronaldo rose highest once again to power home a header and secure a point for Juventus.

Roma started sweetly and should have been in front after 12 minutes but Henrikh Mkhitaryan failed to beat Wojciech Szczesny one-on-one; after a mesmerizing run from his own half.

The hosts did go ahead shortly after 30 minutes when Veretout scored from the penalty spot following a handball from Rabiot.

That goal was all Juve needed to wake up from their slumber and they pulled level shortly before the break.

Ronaldo slamming a shot into the bottom-right corner from the penalty spot after Lorenzo Pellegrini handled the Portugal superstar’s pass inside the box.

Veretout restored Roma’s advantage once again two minutes later, taking advantage of a very poor Juventus defence to receive Mkhitaryan’s pass in acres of space and slot past Szczesny.

A thoroughly shambolic defense almost gifted Dzeko a third when the striker clipped the outside of the post with hardly a Juve defender in sight.

Juve’s task was made harder in the 62nd minute when Rabiot was given his marching orders after picking up a second yellow card for a foul on Mkhitaryan.

Juve’s numerical disadvantage was of little concern to Ronaldo, though, who jumped above a stack of Roma defenders to seal a point from Danilo’s cross in the 69th minute.

What does it mean? Extremely poor Juve escape with a point

Roma were purely the more dangerous of the two teams but failed to capitalize on the poor Juventus defense.

A series of poor finishing combined with the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo helped both teams share the spoils.

The season is only two games old but Juve’s newbie head coach knows his side will need to improve strategically if they are to win a major trophy this season.

Ronaldo the saviour… again

He might be 35, but Ronaldo does not look like slowing down anytime soon. Ronnie is an absolute beast.

He had more shots than the rest of his Juventus teammates combined and proved his body is not weakening, flying high above three Roma defenders to score his second.

Morata endures a game to forget

Morata made his second debut for the club following his loan move from Atletico Madrid earlier in the week.

Alvaro Morata appeared to be lost upfront in an uninspiring debut.

He had only one shot on goal and completed just 10 passes before he was hauled off for Douglas Costa in the 58th minute.

What’s next?

Roma have an away game a Udinese on Saturday, while Juventus will welcome a Napoli team fresh from their 6-0 thumping of Genoa.
