Manchester City currently stand under a neck-breaking ladder leading to the Champions League final as well as Real Madrid following Friday’s draw.
Real Madrid face a possible reunion with the former talisman Cristiano Ronaldo before a Clasico showdown with Barcelona after Friday’s draw mapped out the final stages of this season’s Champions League.
There are plenty pieces of the puzzle which have to fall into place before those scenarios are possible, with Madrid already suffering a 2-1 deficit ahead of their return fixture against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next month.
The winner of the Madrid vs City pairing will face the victor from that of Lyon-Juventus when the reformatted one-legged knockout stages begin in Lisbon from August 12.
Ronaldo and Juventus are also 1-0 down following their away leg loss to their Ligue 1 opponents.
Those teams will do battle for a spot in the quarter-final slot one, the winner of which will take on the team to emerge from the quarter-final slot three, which was drawn as Napoli or FC Barcelona versus Chelsea or Bayern Munich.
Fresh from a domestic double, Bayern Munich are strongly placed having already won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg, likewise Lionel Messi and his compatriots have their encounter barely hanging on the balance following a 1-1 draw at Stadio San Paolo.
The other quarter finals includes the teams who have already booked their place in Lisbon.
Paris Saint-Germain overturned a first-leg loss to knockout Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 and they face the similarly goal thirsty Atalanta.
The winner of that tie will meet RB Leipzig or Atletico Madrid, who both overcame Premier League oppositions in the form of Tottenham and past winners Liverpool in the previous stage.
