Pep Guardiola paid allegiance to David Silva for his everlasting quality after his performance in Manchester City’s defeat of Newcastle United.
Pep Guardiola claimed he has not seen any other player like David Silva following the midfielder’s performance in Manchester City’s 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle United.
Silva provided two goals for Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling before scoring a fine free-kick as City made light work of Steve Bruce’s men in Wednesday’s Premier League match.
The Spain playmaker now has a total of 121 assists in his City career and has reached at least 10 in all competitions in each of the 10 seasons he has played for City.
With David Silva set to leave Manchester City by the end of the season, the farewell planned for him will be terribly hampered by the fact that City fans would be unavailable to wish him well due to the Coronavirus lockdown.
Pep Guardiola still expects a fully packed house for David Silva’s planned testimonial, though, as he believes the 34 year old is a player that should not be compare to any other.
‘This is the best level I’ve seen from David Silva all season,’ Guardiola told Footy Area. ‘Perhaps the fans have not been present, but he’s surely coming back to make his farewell game, and he is playing very well.
‘There is no player like him who can squeeze out of small spaces, he is an incredible legend.’
City’s thumping win came after their poor 1-0 loss to Southampton, their ninth in the Premier league this season.
Guardiola was happy with his team’s finishing, though he felt they created finer chances in the defeat at Southampton.
Pep has now turned his attention to the coming FA Cup semi-final with Arsenal and the Champions League round of 16 second leg tie against Real Madrid later in August.
‘The level of this game is similar to our last game, we however didn’t waste our chances like the last game, and we scored.
‘Honestly, we played much better in our previous game against Southampton, but we did not score, now we have to shift our focus to upcoming games against Arsenal and Real Madrid.’
