With the likes of the great Vidic, Ferdinand and John Terry among a host of others who have made the Premier League memorable.
Below are the list the Premier League all time top scoring defenders in no particular order.
1. John Terry (CB)
John Terry was widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world at his peak.
The former England captain is considered to be one of the greatest central defenders of his generation.
And to cap things up, many fans regard him as the greatest English Premier League defender ever.
John Terry won several awards in his career and was named UEFA Club Defender of the Year in 2005, 2008 and 2009.
He also won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2005, and was included in the FIFPro World XI for five straight seasons, from 2005 to 2009.
He also got a spot in the 2006 FIFA World Cup dream team, the only English player to make the cut.
Terry scored a total of 42 goals in the Premier League; with 41 coming for Chelsea in 492 appearances, and one goal for Aston Villa.
A true legend of the game, Terry is right up there with the greatest defenders in history, and therefore takes the number one spot on the list of the Premier League all time top scoring defenders.
2. Ashley Young (LB)
I know you may be thinking this is inappropriate considering the fact that Young started out his career at Aston Villa as a traditional winger.
However in the modern game, Ashley Young plays as a left-wing-back for Inter.
Louis van Gaal was the man who changed Ashley Young’s position; when he deployed him in the defense throughout the 2014 season.
With 48 goals, Ashley Young is the all time top scoring Premier League defender in history.
3. Leighton Baines (LB)
Baines started out his career at Wigan Athletic, winning the English second division in the 2002/03 season.
He was also part of the Wigan squad that finished second in the 2004/05 Championships and reached the League Cup final in 2006.
In 2007, Baines joined Everton and helped them reach the 2009 FA Cup final.
The former Everton captain represented the English national team at the 2012 European Championships and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Leighton Baines scored a total of 32 goals in the Premier League for Everton and announced his retirement on July 26, 2020.
He is currently one of the coaching staff at Everton.
4. Antonio Valencia (RB)
Antonio Valencia’s case is similar to that of Ashley Young.
Manchester United originally signed the player as a winger in the summer of 2009, but the same notorious van Gaal who changed Young’s position did the same thing to Valencia.
Antonio Valencia scored 24 Premier League goals with Manchester United and Wigan Athletic.
The Ecuador international takes his spot at number four on the Premier League all time top scoring defenders list.
5. David Unsworth (CB)
David Unsworth was famous for his expertize in penalty taking.
The former Everton center-back was a master of the penalty taking ritual.
His versatility meant he was regularly deployed at both left-back and center-back.
With 38 English Premier League goals, David Unsworth takes a comfortable spot on this list
The defender enjoyed a long career which saw him also play for West Ham, the Toffees, Wigan and Portsmouth.
