Vardy wins Premier league golden boot
Jamie Vardy

The Premier League finale is upon us, with the Golden Boot and Golden Glove both up for grabs this Sunday, while Kevin De Bruyne is chasing an all-time assists record mark.

The 2019/20 Premier League season comes to an end on Sunday, although Liverpool have already crossed the winning line at Newcastle United two weeks earlier.

A dominant season from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool cleared every doubt on the destination of the shiny trophy long before the final matchday. However, the war for Champions League qualification and relegation have dragged on to the last day.

The remaining top-four berths will go to only two out of Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester United – with the latter two playing each other in Leicester’s home ground at the King Power Stadium in Sunday’s epic clash.

At the sorry end of the table, two teams out of Aston Villa, Watford and Bournemouth will be joining the already relegated Norwich City in the Championship division next season.

However, as Footy Area examines all possible outcomes below, there are individual awards and achievements still up for grabs in this fierce final battle for glory. The Premier league Golden Boot award, Golden Gloves, and the possibility of breaking the assists record makes today a special day for many clubs and individuals.

⚽ Vardy still favorite to win the golden boot

A goal from Jamie Vardy and a win for Leicester against Manchester United could hand Leicester a sweet end to a truly remarkable campaign which will see them finish third in the league, qualify for next season’s Champions league competition, and hand Vardy a truly deserved Golden boot award.

Vardy leads the goal chart with 23 goals in the current campaign – that saw him score his 100th Premier League goal – to join a long list of Premier League legends who have made their name in the most competitive league in the world.

The main challenger for the Golden boot is Danny Ings, whose 21 goals this season makes him the third Southampton player to score 20 or more goals in a Premier League campaign, after Matt Le Tissier (25) in 1993/94 and James Beattie (23) in 2002/03.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is next in line with 20 goals. The Gabon international has also enjoyed a historic season, becoming the sixth fastest player in history to score 50 Premier League goals. A feat he managed with just 79 games for Arsenal.

➡️➡️➡️ De Bryune hunting Thiery Henry’s assist record

Kevin De Bruyne has provided a total of 19 assists in the Premier League this season, placing him just one more assist shy of Thierry Henry’s competition record of 20.

De Bruyne has been directly involved in 30 league goals this season, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists. This is the most goal contributions from a midfielder since Frank Lampard scored 22 goals and supplied 14 assists for Chelsea in the 2009/10 season.

🧤 Ederson and Pope battle it out for the Golden Glove

Another Man City player gunning for a personal award is Brazilian international Ederson. Ederson has managed 15 clean sheets this term, putting him level in the Golden Glove table with Burnley’s Nick Pope.

Burnley will now end another exciting season at home when they welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to the Turf Moor, and if Ederson and Pope can’t be separated by the final whistle, the trophy will have to be shared.

Both goalkeepers have a similar save percentage, with Pope stopping 70.7 per cent of shots fired at him compared to Ederson’s 69.6 percent, but the Englishman was by far the busiest of the two during the campaign.

Pope has made a whopping 118 saves from 164 efforts fired at him, compared to Ederson’s 64 saves from 92 shots.

Although they have both been impressive this campaign, neither of them were flawless, with Ederson committing three mistakes leading to goals and Pope responsible for two.
