Arsenal fan favorite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has given fans more reason to smile this season after signing a new contract with the club.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has ended the rumors surrounding his future by signing a new bumper three-year contract with Arsenal.
The Gunners captain’s previous contract was set to expire next summer, but he has agreed to commit his future with the Premier League club.
World-class striker Aubameyang has scored 72 goals in 111 appearances since he joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £56million in January 2018.
“Signing for this special club was never in doubt,” Aubameyang told the club’s official website.
“It’s thanks to our fans, my team-mates, my family and everybody at this club that I feel like I belong here.
“I believe in Arsenal. We can achieve big things together. We have something exciting here and I believe the best is to come for Arsenal.”
In his first complete season with Arsenal in the 2018/19 season, Aubameyang scored 22 Premier League goals to be a joint winner of the Premier League Golden Boot.
Last season, the 31-year-old Gabonese international enjoyed another stellar campaign, scoring 29 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.
Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s hero in their recent cup winning success stories.
He scored the two goals which flushed out Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final and handed Arsenal the win against Chelsea in the finals.
Auba continued his heroics with a superb curling strike against Liverpool in the Community Shield, which Arsenal went on to win on penalties.
With speculations surrounding Aubameyang’s future throughout the summer, Arteta remained positive his best player would sign a new contract.
The Spanish manager was delighted with Aubameyang and expressed his delight in a press conference.
“It was important for Pierre-Emerick to stay with us,” he said. “He’s a superb player with an incredible mentality.
“Being the player to have taken the least amount of time to reach 50 goals with this club tells you everything you need to know about him and his way of working.
“He’s an important leader for the team and a big part of what we’re building. He wants to be up there with the best players in the world and leave his mark. He can achieve that here.”
Arsenal began their Premier League title challenge with a 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, where Aubameyang completed the rout, with their game at home to West Ham on Saturday.
