Chelsea have completed the signing of free agent Malang Sarr on a five-year-deal.
The 21-year-old joins the Blues on a 5-year deal after leaving Nice as a free agent with the youngster expected to spend the 2020-21 season out on loan to have more game time and get first team experience.
Sarr can play at the center-back position in a back four, the left side of a back three or at full-back and was touted by Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke and several unnamed Italian clubs.
The youngster made 19 top flight appearances for OGC Nice last season, before leaving the club in June when his contract expired.
Sarr joined local side Nice at the age of six and emerged through the club’s academy before making his first team debut aged 17 in 2016.
He then went on to make 119 outings in all competitions, scoring three goals. He also has eight caps for France’s Under-21s.
Malang Sarr joins the London outfit just one day after they confirmed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester. The left-back will be joined at Stamford Bridge next season by fellow new recruits Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
The France Under-21 international becomes the fourth arrival at the Stamford Bridge and there are likely to be more arrivals before the close of the transfer window with Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz and former Paris Saint-Germain Captain Thiago Silva both on the brink of completing their moves to the London club.
Chelsea are on the verge of announcing Thiago Silva as a Blues player in the coming days, following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, Havertz is also thought to be nearing the completion of a big money move to Chelsea from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
Chelsea kick off their Premier League campaign on September 14 with a trip to Brighton, although Lampard’s pre-season preparations have been dealt a big blow after eight members of his first-team squad were made to go into self-isolation in line with the UK government’s Covid-19 protocols.
