Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City in a deal worth £50 million ($66m), the club announced on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old left-back has penned down a five-year contract with Frank Lampard’s side after reaching an agreement with the Foxes this week.
Chilwell becomes the third summer addition to a young and dynamic Chelsea side as they look to mount a serious title challenge.
Chilwell emerged from Leicester’s youth academy to become a first team player for the senior team, making 123 outings and helping them to win the Premier League title in 2016.
Ben Chilwell is the latest recruit in what has been a busy summer at Chelsea, who had already acquired the services of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.
Further deals are expected to be completed as the Stamford Bridge club made progress in their chase of Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz this week, having agreed terms to match the German team’s £90m ($118m) asking price.
They are also set to confirm the arrival of 21-year-old defender Malang Sarr for free after his contract with Nice expired at the end of the 2019-20 season.
The French youngster, who was touted by Arsenal, Schalke and Leverkusen among other clubs, has agreed a five-year contract with the London side but will likely move out on loan for next season.
Chelsea are expected to bolster their ranks even further at the back this week, as 35-year-old Thiago Silva is close to completing his move following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain after his contract expired following their Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich.
They have already bade farewell to Pedro and Willian after their contracts expired. The Spanish winger completed a move to Roma this week, while Willian joined London rivals Arsenal on a three-year deal earlier this month.
