Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has hailed Neymar as one of the finest footballers on the planet after putting on a world class display against Atalanta on Wednesday.
“Neymar showed the whole world his immense talents over and over again,” Gian Piero Gasperini said after the game.
Paris Saint-Germain produced one of the most historic comebacks of all time against Atalanta on Wednesday, after they scored two goals in five minutes of extra time to knock Atalanta out of the Champions League.
Neymar assisted Marquinhos’ equaliser in the 90th minute to cancel out Mario Pasalic’s opener, before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored the winner in the final minute.
Atalanta boss Gasperini was full of praise for Neymar’s performance at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.
“He is a world class player. He made my team look so average, he is capable of dangerous things even with a very little space,” he told a press conference.
“Despite all our efforts to stop him at times, he showed his quality time and time again. He has proved to everyone that he is a player of the highest calibre.”
Kylian Mbappe came off the bench for PSG on the 60th minute to set up Choupo-Moting’s winning goal.
Gasperini said Mbappé’s introduction gave Paris Saint-Germain a new energy.
“Without any doubt his [Mbappé] Introduction gave PSG some liveliness that wasn’t there since the start,” Gasperini said.
“Kylian is so quick, it was nearly impossible to stop him. His acceleration and pace was more than our defense could handle.
“After conceding the equalizer, PSG found a new morale to hit us harder, which they did.”
