Mkhitaryan Joins Roma from Arsenal on Permanent Deal

Mkhitaryan Joins Roma from Arsenal

Arsenal have taken to their Twitter handle to confirm the departure of Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Italian giants Roma.

Mkhitaryan was shipped out on loan to Roma where he spent the 2019/20 season, managing to score nine goals and providing a further six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The Armenian international joined Arsenal from Manchester United in 2018 in a swap deal that saw Alexis Sánchez move to the Theatre of dreams.

Arsenal have confirmed the move in a statement on their official club website which read: “Everyone at Arsenal thanks Mkhitaryan for his contribution to the club and wishes him all the best for his future with Roma.”

The club agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent to clear the way for the former Manchester United player to complete his move to Roma.

His contract had been due to expire I 2021 after signing a three and a half year deal when he joined Arsenal.

This enables Arsenal to free up their wage bill, with the state of finances left in shambles after the effects of the Coronavirus.

Majority of Arsenal players suggested the club reduce their weekly wages in order to support community activities in London.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored no more than nine goals across all competitions in his two years with The Gunners, he also managed to provide thirteen assists within that period.

However, three out of those thirteen assists came in his first game for Arsenal, where he set up a hat-trick of assists in Arsenals 5-1 rout of Everton.

Mkhitaryan only managed to start 19 games in the full season he spent at the Emirates Stadium, which made Arteta send him out on loan to Roma in the 2019/20 season.

Life has not been easy for his swap partner Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez has made his own loan move to Inter permanent after also terminating his contract with Manchester United, as he hopes to put his horrible Old Trafford nightmare behind him to start afresh in Italy.
