Kylian Mbappé is expected to miss the Champions league quarter final stage clash against Atalanta after picking up a broken ankle in their victory over Saint-Etienne in the Coupe de France finals.
In PSG’s first competitive game since the restart of football in France since the Covid-19 lockdown in March, PSG secured the Coupe de France trophy thanks to Neymar’s 14th-minute scorcher on Friday.
Neymar’s first-half goal against Saint-Etienne in Friday’s Coupe de France final match secured a 1-0 victory and a third trophy for PSG this season, with a fourth domestic prize to follow in a week’s time if Paris Saint-Germain defeat Lyon in the Coupe de la Ligue final.
However, the victory was ruined by an injury to Kylian Mbappé, who was tackled down by Loic Perrin of Saint-Etienne. However, the defender was sent off after further VAR reviews which later sparked a touchline brawl between the two team’s players.
Mbappé was injured by a harsh tackle from the Saint-Etienne skipper, Loic Perrin, in the 26th minute. The tackle sparked a massive disagreement between the players, with several players pushing and pulling each other around and Mbappé limping off the pitch crying as he was replaced by Pablo Sarabia.

Mbappe later returned to the bench holding crutches and with his leg in a cast, with serious doubts now thrown towards his fitness for the Champions league clash against Atalanta
The French star managed to stay behind to receive his medal and lift the trophy amid his discussion with French president Emmanuel Macron.
Dominating the Ligue 1 is not the top priority for Tomas Tuchel, as he was brought in from Dortmund in 2018 to bring European success to PSG.
The Champions league still remains the top price for PSG. However, they have failed to advance from the round of 16 on every occasion due to injuries to too stars before these fixtures.
Last year, it was Neymar who was forced to see out the fixture from the stands after breaking his right leg. Now it is their key man, Kylian Mbappé, who has been their shining light this season.
PSG will have to assess the gravity of the injury to try to speed up his recovery.
