Manchester United will seek to boost their summer transfer budget by trying to sell at least six first team players over the coming weeks, including Jesse Lingard, Phil Jones and Alexis Sanchez.
United are hoping to continue the ongoing squad overhaul in the summer transfer window and have made the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho a top priority.
Man Utd will look forward to sales to boost their transfer budget beyond the money set aside for Jadon Sancho.
It was recently reported by Footy Area that United have set aside a sizeable amount of money with which to sign Sancho, which is more than the £50m they are believed to have told Dortmund they are willing to spend.
Man Utd’s last summer net spend on Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire was all in the region of £75m after the sale of Romelu Lukaku was taken into account to balance the books.
This simply means that sales of these first team players will have a major part to play if Manchester United are to try and buy more than just Sancho ahead of next season.
Man Utd raised roughly around £75m by selling Romelu Lukaku last summer
Footy Area lists six first team players who currently have no future at the club under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
As already specified, Lingard, Jones and Sanchez are on that list. As are Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling, both of whom were loaned out this season. Also, young fullback Diogo Dalot is also among the list of names the club is happy to sell.
First team players Jones and Lingard have recently been linked with West Ham, who are managed by former Manchester United boss David Moyes, although Lingard has also been linked with a potential move to the Serie A given his association with super agent Mino Raiola.
But there is also concern that Alexis Sanchez’s gigantic wages could be a problem in their efforts to get rid of him. The Daily Mail reports that he is reluctant to drop his wage demands, which means any interested clubs would have to match the £391,000 basic weekly salary he gets at Old Trafford.
To make matters worse, the player wants to remain in Europe, which has closed off contacts to the Middle East or China, where some salaries can also be extraordinarily high.
If Man United cannot find a new club for Alexis, now undeniably an expensive mistake, they will be stuck with him for another two years until his contract finally expires in 2022.
