Man Utd were wasteful when they eventually defeated Copenhagen on Monday to reach the semi finals of the Europa league, prompting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to pinpoint the need for improvement in front of goal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer agreed Man Utd must be more clinical in the semi finals stage as he desires to lead the Red Devils to their first final of the season.
Man Utd were defeated in the semi finals of the EFL Cup and FA Cup this season and have now reached the same stage in the Europa league after narrowly defeating Copenhagen 1-0 in extra time.
Solskjaer’s boys needed extra time to secure a semi-final spot thanks to a 95th-minute penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes.
But Manchester United were very unlucky infront of goal, hitting the post twice, seeing another two goals disallowed for offside and forcing an astonishing 13 saves from Copenhagen goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson.
“We have to be more composed, today we required a lot of chances and patience to finally get the result,” manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told UEFA.com. “We created so many chances to win the game.
“We struck the post twice and a few more were tagged offside after VAR [reviews]. These were good call obviously, but we have to work more on our timing of passes and positioning.
“We need to improve on many aspects. For instance, we created a lot of scoring chances today, so we would love to be more clinical in the next game.
“It was also frustrating the amount of passes the boys had to make before testing the keeper, it was almost like they wanted to walk over the line with the ball, and today they encountered a goalkeeper who in my opinion was the man of the match.
Manchester United might end up facing either Wolves or Sevilla in the semi finals. Solskjaer added: “I am so glad we have reached another semi-final, we have been able to reach this stage in every competition we’ve played in this season.
“Now, we have to take that bold step and get to the finals to eventually win this cup.”
