Former Barca ace, Luis Suarez, was vibrant throughout his twenty minute stay on the pitch on his Atlético Madrid debut.
Luis Suarez came off the bench in the 70th minute to score a brace and provide one assist to mark an impressive debut performance for Atlético Madrid.
Barcelona may regret their decision to let Luis Suarez go after a sensational display in Atlético Madrid rout of Granada.
Luis Suarez was deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona after the club decided to freshen their squad.
But the Luis Suarez stole the show in a 6-1 victory on his impressive Atletico Madrid debut.
Atlético were already 3-0 up in the 70th minute before Suarez was introduced, setting the stage for him to take the headlines.
In a remarkable debut, Suarez scored twice, provided one assist and won a penalty which was then overturned by VAR.
Suarez, who scored his first Atlético goal with a brilliant header, and his second was a nice first-time finish on the rebound after he had hit the post.
The 33-year-old managed four shots in total, created one chance and completed 10 passes from only 16 touches, with a 70 percent passing accuracy.
His tally of shots was the most of any player in the game, while his two shots on target resulted in two goals.
The assist for fellow substitute Marcos Llorente, came with just his second touch of the game.
The Uruguay striker’s double made him the first Atleti debutant in history to score a brace.
Suarez is also the first player to both score and assist on his debut for Atlético in the 21st century.
With Suarez’s epic quality at Diego Simeone’s beck and call, Atlético could be well placed to mount a serious title challenge this term.
I wonder what Leo Messi would be thinking about this.
