Luis Enrique slams Messi for poor character

Barcelona are set to keep Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp next season but Luis Enrique felt the way the issue was handled was poor.

Barca former manager Luis Enrique does not feel happy about Messi’s decision to force his way out of the club.

Lionel Messi together with his arrogant decision to defy his superiors and force his way out did not sit well with Luis Henrique.

Lionel Messi has now announced his decision to rethink his departure and remain at the Camp Nou on Friday.

Lionel Messi was reportedly angry with the club’s president for not honoring his words concerning letting him go for free at the end of the season.

Luis Enrique was Barcelona coach for three seasons between 2014 and 2017, a period that saw Barca win the treble in the 2014/15 season.

Lionel Messi has reportedly had enough of the club’s lack of desire to win major trophies, especially in the Champions League.

Luis Enrique has slammed Messi for his unprofessional behavior, saying there could have been a more respectful way of handling it.

“I don’t know whether to pronounce on Messi… but I’m going to do it,” he said at press conference to preview Spain’s Nations League game with Ukraine.

“I think the clubs are above all people, players and presidents. Barcelona, founded in 1899, is one of the best in the world. They have always won titles.

“It is evident that there has been a wonderful relationship. Leo has made Barca grow exponentially but I would have liked it if a much more friendly agreement had been reached.

“Sooner or later, Messi will stop playing at Barca. Barcelona will continue to win titles without Messi and Messi will continue to be a wonderful footballer.”

Luis Enrique also had numerous clashes with Messi midway through the 2014/15 season, before eventually winning a treble with the help of the prolific MSN trio.

Luis Enrique insisted he would not brag about the calibre of players he has coached, nor the trophies he has won.

He confirmed he did not have a favorite player from the football greats he has coached over the years.

He also claimed it is not Messi or any of his current Spanish national team squad who would top the list of his best players.

“I’m not a fetishist at all,” Luis Enrique said. “I will say that I have trained a lot of players, better or worse, but that I have tried to make them better.

“If I had to say one, I would say that I trained Nolito. I had a wonderful time. He left Second Division with me and he’s a very funny guy.”
