Liverpool sign Olympiakos left back Tsimikas for £11.7m

Liverpool have secured the services of Greece international Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos on a five year deal for just a meager sum of £11.7m.

The 24-year-old has joined the Premier League champions for about £11.7m on a five-year contract and is believed to be in contention for Andy Robertson’s position.

“I am so filled with joy, and proud to be joining this incredible club” Tsimikas said.

“It is surely an honour to be here and I will give my possible best. For me, [it’s] the biggest club on earth I give my signature today.”

Tsimikas, who says his brother made him support Liverpool when growing up, becomes the club’s first signing of the summer.

The Reds had also moved for Norwich defender Jamal Lewis but chose not to meet the Championship club’s asking price for the left-back.

Kostas Tsimikas is expected to wear the number 21 shirt at Liverpool next season.

Tsimikas, who has the total of three appearanace for Greece national senior team, made his debut for Olympiakos in 2015 and went on to make 86 appearances in all competitions.

He played 27 times in the league last season, and that saw him win his first major silverware as Olympiakos won the Greek title.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said during the unveiling: “I have watched Kostas for a long time and I am really happy that he has joined us. It is the perfect news just before we come back together for next season training.

“He is a wonderful footballer with a great attitude to win and to compete, and I really love his mentality. It fits perfectly with the mood of the team.”
