The Premier League champions have had strong links with 29-year-old Thiago all summer but had failed to make a bid, prompting speculations that Manchester United were ready to swoop in and complete a late deal to sign the Spaniard who has just one year remaining on his current Bayern contract.
Liverpool have reportedly been Thiago’s preferred option, however, and it is believed that Jürgen Klopp’s side have finally submitted a bid to bring him to Anfield.
According to Sky Sports, Bayern chiefs clearly stated that they wanted Thiago’s future sorted out before the commencement of the Bundesliga season on Friday, and Liverpool have now reached an agreement with the German side.
Liverpool are yet to agree with Thiago on personal terms, although that is not expected to be a major concern.
Both sides want the move to go through and are willing to sit down and reach an agreement in the near future.
Klopp has long admired Thiago as one of the world’s best midfielders and quickly jumped at the opportunity to indicate his formal interest when it became obvious that the 29-year-old wanted to leave the Allianz Arena.

What this move means for Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum’s future is unclear. It was believed that the Thiago move would only be completed if the Dutchman moved to Barcelona, although reports of such a move have abated in recent days.
Klopp has admitted that Liverpool will not be spending huge this summer, with any transfer deals likely to be funded by player sales.
Wijnaldum’s future will remain in doubts for now, while this move for Thiago Alcántara will also increase speculation that the likes of Marko Grujić, Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and even youngster Rhian Brewster could all be sold this summer.
