Luiz Suarez has fired a warning to Barcelona this morning after the club has decided to terminate his contract. He has reportedly requested for a handsome compensation fee of £12m from Barcelona.
The sour 8-2 loss to Bayern has jump-started a revolution at Camp Nou, with president Josep Maria Bartomeu placing nearly every member of the team on the transfer list to try and raise funds for a rebuild.
The Covid-19 enforced break has left Barcelona in a poor state financially, so to try and save a little money, the club are thinking of terminating Luis Suárez’s contract in order to get his huge wages off the books.
The issue is Suárez doesn’t want to leave the Nou Camp early. However, Suárez has told the Barcelona president that he would consider walking away if he is paid a handsome compensation fee of £12m to terminate his contract.
And Suarez, unlike Messi, has reported to the team’s training ground ahead of the new 2020/21 LaLiga pre-season tests, even though he has been told by the new boss Ronald Koeman that he doesn’t have a future at the club.
A host of European giants are believed to have made contact with the player’s representatives concerning a transfer if Barca terminates his contract, and he eventually becomes a free agent this summer.
Argentine international Lautaro Martinez has been widely tipped as the long term heir to Luis Suárez, and he has already voiced out his desire to leave Inter and join Barcelona.
However, that was before the situations at Barcelona went south. Lionel Messi’s transfer request last week has shaken the soul of the Camp Nou, and according to Corriere dello Sport, Lautaro Martínez is believed to be concerned with how the club is handling Lionel Messi’s unhappiness.
The Inter fan favorite is now considering extending his stay with Inter after having doubts over his proposed move to Barcelona. He is reportedly not happy with the Suárez and Messi issue.
If Martínez decides to take himself off the radar, Barca may be forced to rethink their stance to do away with Suárez, especially if he leaves and Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite become the only other senior strikers Barcelona would have.
