With four games left in La Liga, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone’s focus remains on domestic matters, and not in the Champions league.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has claimed that he was not yet worrying about the Champions League.
Alvaro Morata’s brace and a goal from Koke helped Atletico Madrid sail 3-0 past a struggling Real Mallorca on Friday to extend their unbeaten run to 14 matches in all competitions.
Part of that unbeaten run included defeating Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Simeone, whose side cemented their third position in the LaLiga table, insisted the Champions League was not yet a concern, even with the quarter-final draw to be held on July 10.
‘I am not thinking about the Champions League at this moment,’ he told a news conference after the match.
‘There’s still about four extremely important games left, against teams who are also fighting for their places in LaLiga. We are just going to keep fighting until the end of the season, like we always do.
‘Now, we have a longer time to rest, which is four days if I am not mistaken.
‘Now we just need to find continuity to win the remaining matches. The players are now getting ready for the next matches faster than they used to. We just need to build up on this momentum we have found.’
Atletico face Celta Vigo away from home in their next match in the La liga.
