Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku each scored a brace as Inter reached their first European final since 2010 in strong fashion.
Inter had their first goal through Lautaro Martinez who got his first Europa League goal of the Season, heading in a cross from Nicolo Barella after the midfielder was gifted possession by an attempted clearance from Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.
They should have been two goals up before the half hour, but neither Martinez nor Barella could find the net from point-blank range.
Inter‘s second came in the 64th minute as Danilo D’Ambrosio rose highest to head home Marcelo Brozovic’s corner after being afforded a free run. Martinez then sealed the win as he slotted in his second of the night 10 minutes later after being set up by his strike partner Lukaku.
Martinez then set up Lukaku for his first of the night capping up an excellent display with the Belgian curling home from inside the area. Lukaku then had his second and Inter‘s fifth in the closing stages of the game.
With his goals in this game, Lukaku set a new record for scoring in ten straight Europa League matches and is a goal away from equalling the best debut season in goals by an Inter player, which is held by Delima Ronaldo who scored 34 goals in 1997-98.
Inter are now back where they belong as they reach their first final in a decade. They will now have a chance to reclaim European glory when they lock horns with the most successful side in the Europa League, Sevilla.
The final will take place on Friday in Cologne in what should be a tightly contested match. The Nerazzurri will still be considered favorites for the clash, with Martinez and Lukaku hitting top form.
