Guide to Studying in Korea
There are students from all over the world that dream of studying in Korea but have nothing or no one to guide them on how to go about it. We have done some important research that would help any student who want to study and get their degree in the Asian country.
Look at the guides below:
1. Spring and Autumn Semester Registration Time
Many students are confused about the application time of Korean universities, and some students even miss the registration time of the quarter.
Admission to Korean universities is generally divided into spring (March) and autumn (September), but the application time is about five months earlier than the admission time.
The application period for spring admission is approximately from August to November of the previous year; the application period for autumn admission is approximately from April to August. Students can go to each university’s website to check the quarterly admissions brochures according to the approximate time to prepare for the application in advance.
2. Register Online
Many schools in Korea need to apply online. Students can apply for membership on the Uway website (www.uwayapply.com) in Korea, log in after joining, and apply for the school as required.
3. Notarization and Certification of Materials
Many students have many questions about notarization and certification when preparing materials. Universities in South Korea need to submit notarized or certified materials from the college entrance examination results, college entrance examination results, household registration, kinship certificate, academic qualifications, and other materials upon admission. Notarized materials generally require translation of notarized documents in Korean or English, which can be handled by Korean and Chinese notaries.
However, due to the different schools, students who apply for the examination must carefully read the admissions brochures for any special requirements. Students applying for graduate school must submit a report of academic survey or bachelor’s degree certification of his or her country’s colleges and universities and a report of certification of university transcripts.
Students in Korea can apply on the official website of the Confucius Institute in Korea (www.cis.or.kr) Handle. It should be noted that it takes about one month to apply for this certification, so students should arrange their time reasonably to avoid delay in applying.
4. Language Score Requirements
Korean universities generally recognize Korean proficiency test scores or English scores in terms of language.
1) Korean Results: In recent years, due to the increased language requirements of foreign students by the Korean government
Applicants to Korean universities are required to recognize that they must hold at least a certificate of grade 3 or higher in the Korean Proficiency Test, and students who do not have a grade 3 or higher score.
Admission to the Korean Language Proficiency Test is required for admission.
2) English Performance: For students who do not have Korean grades, they can also submit valid English grades. IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC are currently recognized in Korean universities.
Each school has its own rules regarding scoring. However, it should be noted that the English CET scores in China are basically not recognized in the application.
Students with a good language level can submit multiple language scores at the same time when registering, so that they can improve their competitiveness to a certain extent and have a higher chance of admission.
5. Special Professional Requirements
It is not difficult to find in the admissions brochures of Korean universities that some universities, especially prestigious universities, have special requirements for some majors.
For example, in business, economics, international trade, news broadcasting, arts and other majors, there are special entry standards for English, Korean and professional knowledge.
Before applying for the exam, I hope that all students carefully read the admissions prospectus, choose the major appropriately, and make preparations.
6.Graduate School Registration
During the reporter’s visit, the teachers of the university’s college admissions department in some schools made some suggestions on the professional choice of the students who are about to apply for the graduate school. Some students will consider applying for different majors from their undergraduate programs when applying to graduate schools. Because the majors are different, they will bring a certain degree of disadvantage to themselves during the interview; in addition, after entering the school, they will also increase considerable difficulties and burdens and Therefore, the teacher recommends that, when applying for the exam, try to apply for the same or similar majors as the undergraduate.
For students who apply for different majors from the undergraduate, the teacher recommends to understand the special requirements of the major in advance and the difficulty of future study and research be psychologically prepared.
We hope that through our guide, we can help students who are applying and will apply to Korean universities in the future. We also hope that all students can apply smoothly and enter the school of their choice.
