Chelsea manager Lampard was full of praise for Christian Pulisic following Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard hailed in-form Christian Pulisic after the Chelsea star scored again in Tuesday’s five goal Premier League thriller versus Crystal Palace.
Pulisic scored his eighth league goal of the campaign from just 16 starts and third since the restart of the league following the coronavirus enforced break as Chelsea edged Palace 3-2 away at Selhurst Park.
After Olivier Giroud’s sixth minute opener, Pulisic doubled the lead just before the half hour mark before Palace star Wilfried Zaha reduced the deficit heading just on the stroke of half time.
But Tammy Abraham’s 71st-minute goal ensured Chelsea climbed above Leicester into third position, despite Christian Benteke’s late goal.
Lampard was full of praise for United States international Christian Pulisic, who arrived from Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund last summer. The star has been compared to former Blues star Eden Hazard in recent times.
‘I did not put any limits on [Christian Pulisic]. I knew the talent he possessed and I wanted to help him when he first got here because this is a highly physical and demanding league.’ Lampard told Footy Area.
‘He came into the team after not having any break, so we had to be careful. I tried to manage him from the beginning, and now he is playing great for us.
‘Regrettably, he had an injury, quite a terrible injury. But the hunger he has and the quality that he is showing and the end product we are seeing, is the main thing for me.
‘Top players in the world in his position score goals, they win games, they make the difference, they assist. And since the restart Christian Pulisic has been fantastic.’
Jorginho once more was on the bench for Chelsea, with Lampard preferring to play Billy Gilmour in the absence of the injured N’Golo Kante.
Italy international Jorginho has not made an appearance since the 2019/20 season resumed except replacing Gilmour in the 80th minute on Tuesday.
Lampard said to Footy Area: ‘The reason I played Billy is my choice. The two games Billy played before the lockdown against Liverpool, who are arguably the best team in the world, and Everton were fantastic.’
