Callum Wilson completes move to Newcastle in £20m deal

Callum Wilson joins Newcastle United on a four-year deal

Callum Wilson has completed his transfer to Newcastle United from Bournemouth in a reported £20million ($26m) deal, the club has confirmed.

The English international has become the latest star to leave the Vitality Stadium on the back of Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship.

The 28-year-old attacker, who has won four caps for the England senior team, has signed a four-year deal contract with the Magpies ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Wilson spent six years with the Cherries scoring 67 goals in 187 outings, but he was not able to keep them in the Premier League as they were relegated at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Callum Wilson was also heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa, and was previously a subject of interest to Chelsea too.

Newcastle broke their transfer record to sign Joelinton in a £40m deal last year, though the Brazilian had a disappointing debut campaign for the Magpies, scoring two times in 38 Premier League games.

Manager Steve Bruce is delighted with the addition of Wilson to his attacking options as his team look to challenge for the higher places after a 13th-placed finish last season.

The Cherries struggled in front of goal throughout the 2019-20 season, with just 38 goals in as many Premier League outings.

Only three sides posted a worse record in the final third, with two of those going down, and Steve Bruce will be delighted with his addition to the team.

Newcastle are also set add reinforcements to their defence after the club had a £13.5m offer for the Norwich defender Jamal Lewis accepted. The left-back was previously linked to Liverpool, but the Champions instead turned to Olympiakos’s Kostas Tsimikas.

Newcastle are also reportedly nearing completion of a deal to bring in Scotland winger Ryan Fraser who is a free agent after leaving the Cherries in the summer. The Magpies are also keen to add Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding to their ranks on a season-long loan.
