According to The Athletic, David Alaba’s contract extension talks with Bayern have taken a turn for the worst.
Based on the news written by Raphael Honigstein, the disagreement between the two parties is now unfixable.
The key information from the negotiations that may have caused things to you south are:
- Bayern are reluctantly Alaba a €317,000 a week salary (including bonuses) over four years, but Alaba wants €437,000 weekly over five years.
- Sport Bild’s report contradicts this claim; saying Bayern were already prepared to offer Alaba a fifth year.
Bayern understand the implications of putting Alaba in the same salary region of Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski.
This could push players like Kimmich and Gnabry to demand for their current contracts to be renegotiated.
But these are just the easy part of the contract dispute. As it actually gets worse from there
There is currently a very big rift between Alaba’s agent, Pini Zahavi, and the Bayern Munich chiefs.
Some undisclosed sources within the Bayern walls are quoted as saying; “Zahavi is deliberately quoting sums the club can’t meet in an effort to stall and run down Alaba’s contract.”
“He is a greedy agent and wants to run down the player’s contract, because of the gigantic sign on bonus he would secure when another club is signing David [Alaba] for free”
The Athletic also states that Zahavi has Ben going around offering Alaba’s services for to clubs in Spain such as Madrid and Barca.
But none of them reportedly have the financial muscle to complete a deal for the Austrian.
Chelsea and Man City were believed to have made enquiries about Alaba but the superstar is not eager to move to the Premier League.
Now that things have become very bad between the two parties, where do things lead to from here?
Bayern are currently assessing how the future would be without a versatile player like Alaba in the squad.
However, the club still believe there is an enormous amount of depth at the center-back position.
With the likes of Boateng, Lucas Hernandez, Niklas Süle, Benjamin Pavard, Tanguy Nianzou, and Javi Martinez all able to play the position.
It could turn out to be a win for Bayern if Alaba eventually goes for free; as they would take Alaba’s salary and use it to bolster another part of the team that needs strengthening.
The Athletic further reports that by making the quarrel public, they are trying to create a problem between the player and his agent whom they don’t hide their disgust for.
And if it eventually works, Alaba might drop his money demanding agent and reconsider staying with the German champions for the foreseeable future.
It will be interesting to see how things turn out now that David Alaba’s contract extension talks with Bayern have “gone ugly”.
