Borussia Dortmund have fired a warning to Manchester United that they only have until the end of July to finalise a deal for winger Jadon Sancho or he will remain at Signal Iduna Park for another season.
Talks over a potential move to United for Sancho from Borussia Dortmund feel like they have been rumbling on since the beginning of the world, and the two sides currently find themselves at cross-roads over the cost of the deal.
Dortmund manager Lucien Favre wants Sancho’s future tied up by the beginning of August, which would give them enough time to find a replacement if he eventually leaves.
This year’s summer transfer window is expected to be open until October, but Dortmund are not willing to wait around and be made to scramble for a replacement late in the window when it might be late. Particularly with their 2020-21 season expected to start in September. If Sancho goes, the club do not want to be under any pressure finding a replacement for him immediately.
The biggest road block in this deal could be his value. Sky Sports news recently claimed that United are holding firm at £50m to sign him, but Footy Area believe that Borussia Dortmund are refusing to reduce from their €120m (£108m) asking price for Sancho.
It is said that Dortmund will not agree to anything lower than that price, and simply will not sell him if Manchester United don’t agree to meet their demands before July ending.
However, if Sancho demands a move away, Dortmund may be forced to lower their asking price to facilitate a move, but this report states that Sancho is yet to show any hints of wanting to leave Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United.
His father travelled to the club’s offices in June to discuss the player’s situation and is said to be very open about all possible suitors, so Dortmund don’t feel any pressure to sell.
United are expected to exceed that limit of £50m, but 90min understands that they are reluctant to break the £100m mark or even pay more than the £89m which they forked out for Paul Pogba in 2016.
There is hope that United will compromise sooner than later, and a deal will be reached somewhere down the line, but with Dortmund eager to get this thrashed out as soon as possible, United face a race against time to raise their offer.
