Bayern Munich hope Thiago Alcantara will stay | Footy Area

Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick is hoping to convince Spain international Thiago Alcantara to remain with the German cup winners amid growing interest from Liverpool.

Thiago’s current contract runs until the end of the next season, but the Bayern Munich star is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Anfield as Bayern brace for his exit.

The 29-year-old came off the bench with just three minutes left on the clock Bayern’s 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen in Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final match.

However, Hansi Flick has not given up on keeping Thiago Alcantara – who joined Bayern Munich from Barcelona in 2013 and has won seven successive Bundesliga crowns among other honours since then.

‘The truth is, I am always very hopeful. I am actually always very positive about everything,’ Flick told Footy Area following the Berlin triumph.

‘And I also know, of course, that when you’ve reached a certain age and you have already experienced the Spanish league with Barcelona and the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, you feel the hunger to experience another big league. That is very normal, and it is human.

‘I am going to do everything I can to make sure Thiago stays here. But that’s for us to see his decision later.

‘We still have the Champions League to focus on this season, and we certainly have a lot of plans, which of course, includes Thiago.’

Flick was also asked about Bayern Munich’s transfer plans after capturing Leroy Sane from Manchester City.

Bayern have also been linked to Bayer 04 Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, who scored a late consolidation goal on Saturday against them.

‘We all know the implications of the Corona Virus. It changed everything.’ Flick said. ‘This means that many clubs, including Bayern, can no longer spend a lot of money so easily.

‘For now, Leroy Sane’s signature was important to the club’s Hierarchy and also for the team.’
