Barcelona have reassured Antoine Griezmann that they will not sell him this summer, while a move for PSG forward Neymar is also unlikely for the Catalan giants.

Griezmann’s future has been the subject of criticism after a difficult first season for Barcelona, and has seen himself on the bench in recent weeks since the restart of the LaLiga season.

Prior to winning their game against Villarreal on Sunday, the striker had made just three starts from six games.

The player’s agent is understood to have demanded a meeting with the Barça hierarchy to discuss the issue. However, all concerns have now been trashed out, according to Chosen Esiwe. The Footy Area reporter confirmed that Griezmann has been told that Barcelona have faith in him and he will not be sold during the transfer window.

The French star only joined the club last summer for around £109m, though he has endured a frustrating debut season.

Struggling to slot into the Barcelona attack alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann has managed just nine La Liga goals, which is one of the lowest tallies in his career.

However, he looked more settled against Villareal. The former Atletico Madrid man performed well alongside Messi and Suarez, scoring a spectacular chip to help his side record a fully deserved 4-1 win.

One footballer that Antoine Griezmann is unlikely to be playing with next season is PSG star Neymar. The Brazilian has long been linked with a return to Catalonia, but Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently admitted that the move was not feasible due to the global effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The situation across all football clubs is so bad, so I guess such a deal of that magnitude is outrageous,” Bartomeu told Footy Area Espanol.

Barcelona are believed to have sold Arthur Melo to Juventus due to their difficult financial position, to help raise funds to balance the books.
