Barcelona this morning have denied any news of talks between them and Manchester United for Ousmane Dembele.
The club’s sporting director, Ramon Planes, strongly denied the rumor circulating in the media for a few weeks now.
He claimed Barcelona have not received any offers from Manchester United for Ousmane Dembele, or held any talks with anyone.
Manchester United were believed to have turned their attention to Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele after reaching a dead end in their chase for Sancho.
Dembele was believed to have been hot on the wishlist of United, with Goal reporting that United have submitted an offer for him back in August.
With United looking to strengthen their right flank before the summer window slams shut, Dortmund have issued a hands off warning to United.
However, fan favorite Paul Pogba has also reportedly tried to lure his international teammate to Old Trafford this summer.
Now, Barcelona’s new sporting director Planes has vehemently dismissed every speculation surrounding the youngster on Friday.
“First of all, no negotiations with Man United at the moment, completely deny that,” said Planes.
“He’s a player we count on, we know his potential. We hope this year the team sees the best of him.”
Ousmane Dembele remained on the bench in Barcelona’s 3-0 LaLiga victory against Celta Vigo on Thursday.
Due to the increased uncertainty tied to Dembele’s future, Barcelona have now intensified their chase for Lyon star Memphis Depay.
Ronald Koeman is believed to be a firm admirer of the Dutchman, and hopes to strengthen his attack following the departure of Luis Suarez to Atlético.
Barcelona have enjoyed a strong start to the new campaign with back to back wins and two clean sheets.
Ramon Planes added: “We have a good squad, who have competed very well.
“There are always teams to reinforce. We are working with the coach. Daily communication.
“On an attacking level there is great potential and, defensively, it is true that it is weaker.
“We will work until the last day to bring the best and, if someone comes, who can be good. We will not sign for the sake of signing someone. Soon there will be another market.”
