Antoine Griezmann has ended his wait for a goal with an audacious lob from just outside the box against Villarreal on Sunday.
Bacelona boss Quique Setien has hailed the attacker forhis resilience and fighting spirit over the past few weeks.
Quique Setien was quick to heap praise on Griezmann after the forward finally put his name on the scoresheet in Barcelona’s 4-1 LaLiga victory over Villarreal.
Antoine Griezmann scored his first goal since February, alongside strikes from Suarez and Ansu Fati. Pau Torres’ also scored an own goal, helping Barca pull back to within four points of leaders and rivals Real Madrid.
Setien was happy with Antoine Griezmann and his overall performance, and his goal was his 15th in his first season at Barcelona.
‘He has pushing himself very well I training, and has been gaining confidence over the previous weeks,” the Barcelona head coach said, via AS.
‘I am very satisfied after the goal, it was such a beautiful goal that he has scored, it reminded me of one of Messi’s at Betis.”
Setien praised Barcelona’s performance as they claimed just their second win in five games since the restart.
‘All teams are different. Today, we have had everything,’ he said.
Setien added: ‘Other teams like Atletico or Sevilla, who were perhaps tougher in defence created more problems for us. Maybe they were stronger than this.
‘This helps us a lot in confidence. We have pressed very well and we haven’t allowed them to leave. We have made a very balanced match. I would have liked to be right before.’
Meanwhile, there was further VAR refereeing controversy in Real Madrid’s win over Athletic Bilbao as another Sergio Ramos penalty saw Zinedine Zidane’s men claim three points.
The penalty was awarded via the VAR referees and Setien lamented the system was becoming more confusing.
‘I understand it [the VAR] less and less,’ he said.
